Drift School
We run two types of Drift Schools to suit all skill levels — from absolute beginners to drivers looking to sharpen their technique.
Our standard Drift School takes place on the wet skidpan at The Bend, while our Super School at Mallala offers more advanced training across both the main track and skidpan.
Drift Schools usually run for about 2.5 hours of guided courses, plus 1 hour of open track time. Dates are announced at the start of each year (see calendar at bottom of page).
Drift School (The Bend)
Our “bring your own car” Drift School at The Bend is held on a half-wet, half-dry skidpan in a safe, controlled environment. Instructors are available to ride with you or offer tips from outside the car.
The wet section is used for Beginner and Intermediate drivers to practice donuts and figure 8s. The dry section is for drivers working on drift entries (including handbrake entries), transitions and tandems.
Typical Schedule:
9:00am–11:30am: Rotating courses (Donuts, Figure 8s, Entries)
12:00pm–1:00pm: Open Skidpan in a ‘Meihan replica’ layout (max 6 cars at once)
Approximate cost is $199 (members), $249 (non-members).

Beginners must enter Drift School before progressing to open skidpan / other events.
Drift School – Mallala (Super School)
Our Super School at Mallala is a more in-depth “bring your own car” experience. Drivers can choose from a variety of courses across both the main track and a wet skidpan (similar to The Bend’s). Instructors are always available and ready to jump in when needed.
This is ideal for:
– First-timers wanting support
– Returning drivers fine-tuning their skills
= More advanced drivers exploring higher-speed entries and linking corners
Approximate cost is $249 (members), $299 (non-members).
Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I need to be to drive?
The minimum driver age is 14. All drivers must hold a valid RACERS Clubman licence (not a drivers licence) to participate. If you’re under 18, you’ll need to contact us for prior approval before entering and must have a parent or guardian present on the day.
What kind of car do I need?
A rear-wheel drive car. No roll cage needed unless you have a convertible. Both street and track-only cars are welcome. See our vehicle requirements page for more information.
Can I share a car?
Yes. Each Drift School entry can add one guest driver at half price. Guest drivers must meet the same safety and license requirements.
What do I need to bring?
You’ll need your car (rear-wheel drive), helmet (AS/NZS1698 standard), long sleeves tops and pants, and closed-toe shoes. While spare wheels/tyres aren’t a must, they may come in handy, but many beginners don’t need to replace them for several events, especially on the wet skidpan. If you have spare parts, it’s always good to bring them just in case.
Can passengers / spectators come?
Yes! You can take one passenger at a time – instructors or friends/family with a valid Passenger Pass (they’ll need to pay and sign a waiver form). Passenger Passes are available on the day. Spectators are also welcome – they’ll just need a ticket, which can be purchased at driftingsa.com.au/tickets.
