Vehicle Requirements
Below you’ll find some of the key vehicle requirements for our events, which are operated under RACERS. A full list of vehicle regulations can be found here: 2026 Drifting SA Standing Regulations.
Key requirements for all events:
Battery is secure.
Seats are properly mounted.
Seat belts (or harnesses) work correctly & have no rips or tears.
For cars fitted with harnesses, they must not be mounted to the floor at more than a 45 degree angle.
Brake lights & rear hazard lights operational. (Headlights are required for night-time events).
Crack free windscreen.
No loose body work or items in cabin.
Modified fuel systems are separated from the driver by a firewall. This is the same for any fuel/oil/coolant systems or lines within the cabin.
A fire extinguisher is not required but, if fitted, they must be mounted securely by bolts.
No ute trays or tow bars.
No steel wheels due to potential for track damage.
Drift School / Skidpan
Beyond the above, we have very little additional requirements for School or Skidpan events. We welcome brand new cars or unmodified cars to these events. Standard ADR seat belts are acceptable & you are not required to have a rollcage (unless it’s a convertible) or fire extinguisher. However, a locked or shimmed diff is highly recommended to ensure your diff doesn’t open wheel!
Freestyle / Practice Events
These events have two to three classes and passengers are allowed in all groups.
Intermediate Class: Has a shorter run up to limit speed & a rule against having more that two cars drifting together. You can also drive/take passengers with standard ADR seat belts and without a rollcage* (except for Mallala Main Track).
Experienced Class (Locktoberfest/Winterfest only): Suits drivers with additional experience who want to tandem more. You will need to have a minimum of a 4 point harness and a half rollcage.
Advanced Class: Has a full length run up & you can run trains of cars. You will need a minimum of a 4 point racing harness and a half rollcage.
Competition
Be sure to read the 2026 Drifting SA Standing Regulations. before you enter.
Some key points to note:
– Minimum of 4-point harness (cannot use OEM seat belts).
– From 2024, we have new cage requirements for both L1 and L2. Please review the standing regulations for more details.
Passengers
Passenger seat & harness must meet the same requirements specified for drivers in each group. Passengers are allowed in all non-competition sessions* however only one passenger is permissable in the car at a time. *Please note: Events held at Mallala Motorsport Park events may require a cage in order to have passengers. Specific rules will be posted on the event details page.
Convertibles
Convertibles without roll over protection are severely limited in what they are allowed to do. If you have a convertible without a minimum of a half-cage then please contact us before entering an event so we can advise you.
Tyre Requirements
To keep competition fair, we regulate tyre width (based on chassis) and approved tyre brand/model. Rim size and tyre height are unrestricted. Each series has its own maximum width per chassis, and you’re free to run a smaller width if you prefer. The approved tyre brand/model list is the same across all competitions.
